Stratec were called in to assist on this project for remedial works required to stabilise the slope off the A47 in Cambridgeshire.
The erosion of the raised embankment had been going on for many years, and it was endangering the existing road, which is built along the top of it.
The team at Stratec, working with Graham Construction, provided a solution which involved installing Geocell along the embankment onto a newly installed sheet piled wall to provide resistance to soil slipping down the embankment and long-term stability of the slope.
By using the Stratec Geocell. This provided a pocket system for the soil to retain in place to allow vegetation to establish quickly.
The Geocell was able to be installed in mid-winter and completed before the growing season started, allowing rapid establishment of the vegetation to take place in the springtime.
This stopped the soil on the slope slipping down to the bottom and creating further soil migration and embankment destabilisation. It also meant that the ground on the embankment could now be maintained and the contractor could avoid expensive remediation works.
The decision to use Stratec Geocell was effective because it met all the specifications of the project requirement, but it also brought added value to the project in the durability and longevity of the material used. This prevented the need for any further expensive remediation works.
