The Brief

Stratec were asked to provide the foundation to this key road link in Nigeria. The conditions of the project site posed several challenges.

There were approximately 10 kilometres of ground requiring stabilisation on the bypass road. The main problem was that the ground conditions in the area were extremely wet and there was significant silt formation. The main contractor Sermatech Nig Ltd had to build the road up considerably for the working platform.

Our Approach

Stratec’s specialist technical team reviewed the site and formulated a comprehensive geotechnical design that was able to overcome the difficulties with the ground conditions on-site.

The design included the recommendation for the use of a combination of Geogrid and a Non-woven Geotextile, which we also supplied.

The Outcome

Stratec successfully supplied 213,695 sqm of Stratec G30PP Biaxial Geogrid for the project, as well as a Non-woven Geotextile.

The choice of a Non-woven Geotextile was highly effective in this project due to its filtration and separation capabilities, which dramatically improved the characteristics of the soil.

Similarly, the use of Geogrid added significant value to this project. The membrane is specially designed for soil stabilisation and reinforcement applications which increased the strength of the road and overcame the issues Sermatech Nig Ltd were facing previously.

We were called in to deal with soil erosion issues and to help with previous failed remediation attempts. There was significant silt formation, polluted water, embankment erosion and lack of vegetation, which…
RJ McLeod Inverness approached us with a requirement for pond liners and a drainage ditch to be constructed adjacent to the new road with relatively steep embankments. Additionally, they wanted the quick…
