Windy Standard is an onshore wind farm located in Dumfries and Galloway. It was opened in 1996 and at the time was the second largest wind farm in Scotland with 36 wind turbines.
Stratec were approached by CA Blackwell to provide the materials for phase 2 of the construction of a new haul road for the site. The ground on the road needed to be strengthened to be able to withstand the heavy loads transported to and from the wind farm.
After reviewing the site and the requirements Stratec recommended the use of a Geogrid. A Geogrid was selected due to their high-tension characteristics and their subsequent reinforcement and separation capabilities.
Stratec were able to supply CA Blackwell with the material for the successful installation of the Geocomposite. Stratec provided 9000m of Geogrid to the wind farm project.
The choice of using a Geocell was beneficial as it was quick and easy to fit and cut down installation time. It also drastically improved the strength of the ground conditions and its load-bearing capacity. This tackled the issues proposed to Stratec at the beginning of phase 2 of the project.
